Overview

The project is a product catalog website for our client (Dolly's Closet) that aims to boost their online presence. Most features are focused on the client's side, which is rich in functionality for customizing the website's content.

What I Learned

The first part of this project was gathering information about the client's needs and wants in order to find the right software for their case. Here, I learned about the early stages of software development: setting deadlines for the documents, writing functional requirements, conceptualizing how users should interact with the software, drawing an overview of the database (using an ER diagram), and creating a software test plan. This was a lot more tedious than I expected, but I realized later in the project that it should be tedious, and for a good reason.

The next part was the actual development of the project, where we turned the plans from the previous part into code. Here, I got hands-on experience with Next.js and Supabase and really learned how to connect the two. This was my most important experience in the project because of its practicality. Along the way, our team made a lot of revisions to the plan, which was very time-consuming and showed the need for robust planning. A very detailed plan is easier to follow and finish than one that is not.

After development, we shipped it to the client, then maintained it for a month with some additional revisions and bug fixes.
